Strawberries You Pick: 5 Things You Should Know

About the strawberries you pick, there are things you should know FIRST–whether you’re grabbing them from your local farmer’s market, or right from a supercool pick-your-very-own-fruit-farm. Seriously, the kind of strawberries you pick matter a heck of a lot! Why is that? Well, here are 5 major things you should know before you decide to pick your own strawberries:

1.) Strawberries you pick tip #1:

WARNING: ALWAYS buy ORGANIC strawberries, ALWAYS! Do not EVER buy them as conventional non-organic…

It’s waay too dangerous–the risks are too high. Seriously, when you pick your strawberries, this is one fruit you should absolutely, without a doubt, always buy organic. Non-organic strawberries are not healthy and are filled with loads of pesticides.

2.) Strawberries filled with pesticides are NOT SAFE: tip #2:

Never forget this doozie: strawberries are in top 2 of the dirty dozen! Crazy, huh? Well, here’s the low-down: the US Department of Agriculture’s “Pesticide Data Program” ran tests that pinpointed strawberries as clearly one of the most pesticide-soaked, deeply contaminated produce. No kidding!

Strawberries rank #2 on Environmental Working Group’s annual “Dirty Dozen” list for 2025. Each year this list highlights the most contaminated produce that you should always stay away from.

3.) Make sure your farmer’s market is REALLY organic tip #3:

Be sure that your farmer’s market  and/or the farm you’re picking from is TRULY certified organic. You would think if they have a sign that says so, it would be so, but it’s not always the case. So make sure that you do your research and confirm that you’re picking your strawberries from a farm that is real-deal organically certified.

4.) Strawberries you pick tip #4:

Always remember, pesticides are super-dangerous to your system! According to the EWP, the USDA tests found that conventional/non-organic strawberries contain dozens of pesticides and chemicals that are “linked to cancer, reproductive & developmental damage, hormone disruption and neurological problems.” It was also found that “strawberry samples contained residues of 81 different pesticides in various combinations.”

Well, for me, that’s all I ever need to know–which is why I keep my eyes peeled when shopping for strawberries. And unless they are true organic, I DO NOT touch them for anything. Ingesting pesticides–no thanks, I’ll pass on that one.
