Hello fellow cancer survivors/thrivers

I have to say, I strongly feel that cancer patients should NEVER be told how much time they have left to live. I believe that no cancer patient should EVER be given an expiration date! Why not?
-
Because I DEEPLY disagree with ANY doctor who feels they are qualified to tell a patient how long they have left to live. Your doctor is a medical professional. Your doctor is NOT a fortune teller, and NOT someone who predicts the future.
-
In my opinion, for a doctor to predict how long a patient has, when truthfully, they’re actually only guessing, is unethical. I’m fortunate that my oncologist NEVER did this…he never handed me an expiration date. It’s deeply unfair that not everyone has been this fortunate. It’s tragic.
-
Going though a cancer diagnosis is enough of a blow by itself. But to then hear someone tell you when you are leaving this earth? I can only imagine how shocking, painful and terrifying that must be. And it’s safe to say, it can’t do very much good for the patient’s healing process.
-
Thank goodness for any patient who chooses to close their ears to what they’ve heard, and to fight, and to heal themselves. To continually discover ways to nourish & heal, no matter what they were told.
-
Think about this truth: realistically, a doctor doesn’t know how long THEY THEMSELVES have left. Do they know exactly when they will be passing away? I think it’s safe to say, they have no clue.
Can I ask…do you agree or disagree with this? And feel free to share your own experiences with this. –Nita Riggs Samuels

I think doctors should ask first whether patient would like to know doctor’s opinion on that. In my case, just fear mongering that it could lead to metastasis. I will stick to the herb concoction that I’m taking.
I definitely agree with what you’re saying. At the very least, it should be a patient’s choice whether or not they’d like to know. And yes, triggering fear can lead to a patient’s condition becoming a whole lot worse.
